Advanced Certificates
- What is an Advanced Certificate?
An Advanced Certificate is a set of three graduate business classes
(excluding any prerequisite requirements) that lead to a certificate
in an approved discipline. We offer Advanced Certificates in Executive Leadership, Marketing,
Production Management and Financial Management. Certificates offer an accelerated approach to obtain intensive
exposure to a specialty in which you do not have much in-depth experience.
Certificates can also be a logical and expeditious way to legitimatize and
expand upon the experiences you already have.
- Why should I apply for an Advanced Certificate?
Applicants to a certificate program would include anyone who wants to enhance
his or her resume and provide documentation, to a current or prospective employer,
of his or her expertise. The attainment of an advanced certificate may be to acquire new levels
of proficiency in an area in which the candidate is currently employed
or provide a credential in an area into which the candidate hopes to
branch out.
Completion of an Advance certificate will be noted on your official Marist transcripts.
Thus, an advanced certificate not only allows you to delve into a desired field of study and
acquire a new level of expertise, but the college recognizes
your achievement on your official transcripts. This gives you
the documentation you need to incorporate your
accomplishments into your resume materials.
- I am an MBA student, why should I apply for an Advanced Certificate?
Completion of an advanced certificate shows that you posses the necessary
qualifications in a particular discipline. MBA students who add a
certificate to their degree program give their MBA that extra boost to
help their resume stand out from the pack. An advanced certificate
highlights your skill set for prospective employers. Unlike a
concentration, MBA students are not limited to one certificate, but may
add as many certificates as they desire.
- As an MBA student will I have to take more classes to get an Advanced Certificate?
An MBA student may use the required classes for the certificate to
fulfill their elective requirements. The curriculum in the MBA
program requires that each candidate take three elective classes.
Each of the certificates requires completion of three 600-level courses (excluding prerequisite
foundation courses.) For most certificates, one of the
required courses is a core MBA class so if you carefully choose your
electives, you will be able to complete your degree AND get a
certificate without taking any additional classes. If, as an MBA candidate you are
skillful at putting together your schedule, you may be
able to pick up a second certificate by taking only one or two additional
classes beyond your MBA program requirements.

- What are the Admissions Criteria for the Advanced Certificate?
Applicants to a certificate program must have a bachelor's degree
with an undergraduate cumulative GPA of a 3.0 or higher and have
satisfied the prerequisite course requirements for the certificate.
Admission as a non-matriculated student in a certificate program does not
guarantee full admission to the MBA program as a matriculated,
degree-seeking candidate.
- Can I apply the credits I earn in the Advanced Certificate program to the MBA?
Credits earned in a certificate may be applied toward the MBA provided
the student applies and is fully admitted to the MBA prior to
completing the academic requirements of the certificate. Non-matriculated
students are limited to one advanced certificate. Admission decisions are
made by the MBA Program Director and are final. Participants in the
certificate programs are subject to the same requirements for good
academic standing that are applied to all students in the MBA Program.
- What do Advanced Certificate holders have to say about the program?
