Alyssa Gates is in her fifth year as the Director of Student-Athlete Enhancement, and her sixth with the Marist department of athletics. In her position, she oversees the Center for Student-Athlete Enhancement, including the assistant director and the academic advisement fellow. She is responsible for the academic monitoring and the continuing eligibility of more than 550 student-athletes at Marist College.

In each of her first four seasons at Marist, the Red Foxes have led the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll each year. In 2008, 13 of her student-athletes were named Academic All-District by ESPN The Magazine as selected by CoSIDA, while two were named Academic All-Americans.

Gates also serves as an adjunct instructor of Psychology in the school of Social and Behavioral Science.

Prior to her current positions, she served as the Academic Advisement Fellow for the Red Foxes during the 2004-05 school year. As the Academic Advisement Fellow, Gates coordinated and hosted the first ever Mid-Hudson Parkinson's Walk to raise awareness for the disease.

While earning her master's degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education at Kutztown Unviersity, Gates was a graduate assistant in the advising center where she worked with students who were on academic probation.

Before she began her career in academic advisement, Gates coached field hockey for three seasons. She was the head coach at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., for two years. Also, she spent a season as an assistant at Kutztown where in addition to her on-the-field responsibilities, she was responsible for the academic monitoring of the team.

She gave the keynote address at Windsor (N.Y.) High School's National Girls and Women in Sports Day event, delivering a presentation entitled "Taking It to the Next Level: Planning For and Achieving Success as a College Athlete and Beyond". Gates also was a panelist at Freshmen Student-Athlete Orientation at her alma mater, Mansfield University (Pa.).

Gates is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) and the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

Gates is a cum laude graduate of Mansfield with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication. During her time there, she played four years of field hockey, serving as captain her senior season.

She currently resides in Hyde Park.

Lynsey Miller

Lynsey Miller is entering her third year with Marist Athletics, and is in her second year as the Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Enhancement. In this position, she is responsible for academic advisement of probationary student-athletes, assisting in the development and implementation of the CHAMPS/Life Skills and gender-equity programs in the areas of leadership, career development, and community service, as well as coordinating the nomination of student-athletes for academic awards & honors. During the 2007-2008 school year, Miller served as Marist's Academic Advisement Fellow.

Miller spent her time as an undergraduate student at Daemen College, located in Amherst, N.Y., as a psychology major. She was a four-year starter on the women's soccer team, and was named offensive MVP after her sophomore season in 2002. The former midfielder was also captain of the team for a season, while also being named an NAIA Scholar Athlete.

Miller would then move to Indiana to attend Ball State University, where she earned her Masters Degree in Sport & Exercise Psychology. During her years at Ball State, she held an internship in sport psychology with the women's soccer team, which included aspects of team building, goal setting and individual sport psychology consulting. She also worked as a therapist in the Ball State University Counseling Clinic while earning her masters degree. The topic of her thesis was Athlete Career Termination & Athletic Identity. Miller presented this research at the 2007 Sport & Exercise Psychology Symposium at Purdue University as well as at the 2007 Ball State University Graduate Colloquium.

Miller is a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).

A Cheektowaga, N.Y. native, Miller now resides in Poughkeepsie.

Erik Proctor

Erik Proctor joins the Red Foxes for his first season as the Academic Advisement Fellow. In his post he will coordinate community service events and tutoring for student-athletes, in addition to maintaining the student-athlete database and advising a number of Marist student-athletes during the 2009-10 academic year.

Proctor earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from St. Michael's College in 2007. During his years as an undergrad, he completed an independent study regarding drug abuse by college athletes.

Upon his graduation from St. Michael's, he moved onto Springfield College to pursue a master's degree in education with an emphasis on athletic counseling. While attending graduate school, Proctor worked directly with the football, softball, wrestling and baseball teams. He presented life-skills workshops in team building, goal setting, communication and stress management.

A native of Concord, N.H., Proctor now resides in Hyde Park.
