Roy H. Merolli was appointed Executive Vice President in October, 1996. As Marist's chief operating officer, he is responsible for the coordination, management, and evaluation of all activities related to institution-wide planning, administration and finance, institutional research, student affairs, facilities development and construction, information technology, and human resources.
Dr. Merolli came to Marist from Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) in Willimantic, where he had served as Vice President for Finance and Administration since 1980. He was responsible for leading major institutional planning initiatives and integrating those initiatives into ECSU's operating and capital budget plans. Dr. Merolli had overall management responsibility for budget and finance, information technology, facilities planning and management, public safety, and auxiliary enterprises.
Dr. Merolli was loaned to the Connecticut State University System in 1991-92 to serve as Interim Vice President for Finance and Management. His responsibilities included defending budgets before the state legislature and developing the system's first comprehensive biennial budget request for presentation to the Board of Governors and State Budget Office. Dr. Merolli also served as Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs at ECSU from 1984-86 and Vice President for Administrative Affairs from 1980-84. Prior to coming to ECSU, he served as an administrator at several Connecticut colleges and as Assistant Budget Officer for the Board of Trustees for Connecticut Community Colleges.
Dr. Merolli's teaching experience includes graduate courses in governmental financial administration at the University of Connecticut, public finance courses at ECSU, and courses on local, state, and national government at Asnuntuck Community College. Dr. Merolli also teaches a course in public budgeting in Marist's MPA program.
Dr. Merolli received a B.A. with high honors in political science, and M.A. in political science, and a Ph.D. in political science, all from the University of Connecticut. He earned numerous honors at UConn, including membership in Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Sigma Alpha (political science), and Phi Alpha Theta (history). He also was named Distinguished Military Graduate (ROTC). Dr. Merolli served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Branch at the rank of 1st Lieutenant and in the U.S. Army Reserve as Captain.
Dr. Merolli serves on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers and is a member of the following organizations: National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), American Association of Higher Education, American Society for Public Administration and the Society for College and University Planning.
